Info · Single vs double glazing

Single Glazing Or Double Glazing?

A lot of older Melbourne homes still have one sheet of glass in each window. Double glazing puts two sheets in the frame with a sealed gap between them.

Is It Right For Your House?

  • Does your house get cold in winter, even with the heater on?
  • Does it get hot in summer, with the sun beating through the glass?
  • Do you hear trains or trams going past, or planes going over?
  • Do you live near a freeway or a busy road?
  • Do your windows fog up or drip on cold mornings?
  • Do your heater and air con run all day to keep up?

If you said yes to any of these, double glazing is worth a quote.

Info · Why windows feel cold

Why Your Windows Feel Cold

Old aluminium frames are solid metal, so the cold outside travels straight through them into your room.

A thermally broken frame has an insulating strip through the middle, called a thermal break. The strip stops the cold outside travelling through the metal into your room. Double glazing, two sheets of glass with a sealed gap between them, does the same job for the glass.

“I put these windows and doors in my own house first. People came over, saw the quality for themselves, and wanted the same in theirs.”

Questions

Your Double Glazing Questions

How Quickly Will I Get A Ballpark Price?

Within 24 to 48 hours of sending us how many windows and doors you have, your suburb and a few photos.

When we come out to measure, we give you a ballpark on the spot.

How Long Does Installation Take?

The windows go in 8 to 10 weeks after you sign off the drawings your windows are made from, which you check before anything is made. We confirm the timing on your quote.

Once we start, a new build takes our install team about a day to a day and a half. A renovation with 25 windows usually takes 3 to 4 days.

Is One Door Or A Few Windows Too Small A Job?

No. We mostly do whole houses, but small jobs are welcome, and plenty of people start with one room or one sliding door.

Do You Work On Apartments And Strata Buildings?

Yes. In a strata building the body corporate, the owners group that runs the building, may need to approve the work before we start.
